Hoz, Dov
Son of Baruch and Sarah. He was born in 1894 in Russia to a Zionist family that was passionate about Hebrew culture. The family immigrated to Israel in 1906 and settled in Jaffa. Dov, aged 12, began his studies at the Herzliya Gymnasium in the first and only Hebrew high school. Among the three members of his group – Moshe Sharett, Eliyahu Golomb and Dov Hoz – ties of special friendship were established that lasted all their lives. This youthful friendship was later strengthened by family ties: Dov and Eliyahu married the two sisters of Moshe. According to the group’s decision, known as the “limited Histadrut”, Moshe went to Constantinople to prepare himself for a political position, and Dov and Eliyahu went to work in Degania. They were absorbed into the work without difficulty and gave a young spirit to the social and cultural life of the group. On 29.12.1940, a road accident occurred in which Dov, his wife Rivka, their eldest daughter Tirza, his sister-in-law, and Yitzhak Ben-Yaakov were killed. Only daughter Tamar survived. He was buried in the old cemetery in Tel Aviv.
