Hoover, Alon

Son of Clara and Jacob. He was born on Kibbutz Kfar Giladi on September 9, 1969. He grew up and was educated on the kibbutz. Was a handsome boy, especially attached to his brother, especially his sister, Daphne. Alon was a very sociable type and easily acquired many friends. He studied at the kibbutz elementary school and continued his high school studies at the joint school of the children of the Galilee, the Hula Valley in Kfar Blum. In his tenth year he preferred to stop his studies and start working. At first he worked in the poultry industry and later in the kibbutz garage and quarries. While working in the garage he completed his studies in the field of car electrical engineering. He was interested in the automobile and his great hobby was driving motorcycles, tractors, cars, and later tanks, all of which he enjoyed very much. Alon was an animal lover, especially dogs and horses. While he was working in the stable, he enjoyed riding horses and loved to ride them. He also loved music and his favorite types were rock, pop and oriental music. He learned to play drums and his favorite bands were Pink Floyd and Scorpions. Alon also enjoyed listening to non-musical programs. For example, he used to listen to the Hagashash Hachiver skits. He was very much attached to his uncle, Shai Cohen, who was his age and was killed in an accident in the Navy half a year before the fall of Alon, and was drafted into the IDF in August 1987. He underwent basic training in the Negev and summer training and aspired to be a symbol. Alon fell during his service on the 26th of Kislev 5749 (26.11.1988) in a traffic accident on the Kiryat Shmona-Rosh Pina road and was laid to rest in the military section of the cemetery in Kfar Giladi. He left his parents, a sister and four brothers – Dafna, Adi, Haim, Ron and Elad. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved mother, the unit commander wrote about Alon, who served as a tank driver in an elite unit and during his service took part in operational employment in Lebanon. And that he fulfilled his position with distinction, had considerable professional knowledge, and served as a central figure in the unit socially. The mother placed a stone in the form of a screaming man in his memory. On the stone, lines from the poem by Dahlia Ravikovitch Gauha were regretted: “I told you, when rocks break, it happens in surprise – and so are people.” The mother also intends to perpetuate his memory by publishing a video
