Hillel, David (Amos)
David, son of Eliyahu and Fortuna Hillel, was born in Sos (Moknin), Tunisia, on March 25, 1934. He completed his studies there in 1949. The family immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1949 and settled in Moshav Gilat. He was drafted into the IDF in July 1952 and served in the navy, and was later assigned to reserve duty. In the Six-Day War, a battle took place on the way to Rafah on the third day of the battles, which is 28 Iyar 5727 (7.6.1967). As usual, David discovered a spirit of volunteerism and ran to help rescue a jeep that had hit a mine. Then a second mine exploded. He left a wife, a son and a daughter. He was buried in the military cemetery in Bari and later moved to the eternal rest of the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva.
