Helman, Ben-Zion (‘Bentzi’)
Son of Yigal and Eve. He was born on the 28th of Adar 5705 (February 28, 1955) in Givatayim, to the residents of the Borochov neighborhood. He was a good student and a friend, and at home absorbed the love of the country and the tendency to take root in his land as an agriculturist, and his parents bought a farm in Moshav son of Shemen and hoped to work with Benzi, but they did not see it Benzi was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed youth movement in the Borochov neighborhood, and was especially fond of swimming, and from the age of ten he used to visit the Sea of Galilee every year. 1973 Benzi was drafted into the IDF. He was assigned to the Armored Corps and after basic training he was accepted to the Armored Corps School and finished there with excellent grades. He rose to the rank of sergeant and served as a tank commander. With his great devotion and brilliant performance he aroused the sympathy and esteem of both his subordinates and commanders. A training accident had shortened the thread of his life. He fell during the performance of his duties – on the 25th of Nissan 5735 (6.4.1975). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He was 20 years old. Survived by his parents, younger brother and sister. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved parents, his commander wrote: “Bentzi’s military service, as we all called him, was exemplary service as a soldier, a commander and a man.
