Halperin, Yehuda-Aryeh

Yehuda, son of Charlotte and Samuel, was born onthe 24th of Tishrai, October 24th, 1951 in Haifa. He attended the religious elementary school in Kiryat Shmuel. Yehuda was drafted into the IDF at the end of July 1970, and after completing basic training, he was sent to Tirat Zvi as part of his service in the Nahal Brigade. After leaving compulsory service, Yehuda returned to the kibbutz. On Rosh Hashana, a few days before the outbreak of the war, the entire family gathered and Yehuda promised that he would return home before Sukkos to build the sukkah, as he had done in previous years. It was the last time his parents saw him. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Yehuda hurried to the base. He joined his unit and participated in the battles of containment and incursion against the Syrians on the Golan Heights. On the 16th of Tishrai, October 12, 1973, Yehuda’s tank was among the tanks that advanced toward Mazra’at-Beit-Jan. His tank first reached the mosque hill and was hit by an ambush by Syrian soldiers. Yehuda was killed on the spot and brought to eternal rest in the Tirat Zvi cemetery. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal.
