Grunov, Avi

Avi, Rene and Aryeh Grunov’s eldest son, was born in Sderot in 1995. Avi loved to help everyone in a pleasant way, and his friends called him “Avi the Tzaddik.” In Sderot, the atmosphere was very tense. A Qassam rocket landed twenty meters away, and Avi was miraculously saved, and another time a Grad rocket fell close to his residence in the middle of the night. He dreamed of being a doctor like his grandfather. He joined the IDF on November 27, 2013. Two days after his return to the base, he was hit in the head by a bullet fired from his friend’s unit, and he was critically wounded. Attempts by Magen David Adom and medical teams to save his life were unsuccessful. Avi served in the IDF for a year and two months, and fell on 23 Tevet, 14 January 2015. He was laid to rest in the military section of the Sderot cemetery.
