Groziminski, Avner

Son of Aliza and son of-Zion, was born on October 3, 1931 in Tel Aviv. He moved with his family to the Borochov neighborhood (Givatayim) and attended elementary school there. Avner excelled in his studies, in painting, in literary writing, and in playing violin. He contributed his talents to social events and school celebrations. In his writings he has shown admiration for Israeli heroism in the past and in the present, and a willingness to continue with the heroes of Israel for the homeland. At the recommendation of his teachers, who had predicted great things, he was admitted to the Balfour Gymnasium in Tel Aviv. But the sense of duty to the homeland did not allow him to learn calmly while many sacrificed their lives for her in battles. At the age of 13, he joined the Haganah and despite his health was released for one year from all activities, he volunteered for active service in the winter of 1948. He went to Palmach training in Yagur and volunteered for agricultural work and studied and trained in the Palmach. One day he decorated the training club and painted in large letters the slogan: “Only in the name of life do the men of Labor go to die” – and the next day he left – one sabotage mission was successful, and the other – the raid on the kfar kana near Sejera – (March 11, 1948). Avner was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
