Gross, Yakov-Haim (Zuri)
Son of Margit (Bluma) and Miklos (Avraham) was born on December 12, 1927, in the village of Nir Bakta in northeastern Hungary. Immigrated to Israel. Worked for a while in Jerusalem and at the beginning of the War of Independence, he joined the defense of the city. In the meantime, his older brother also joined the Haganah, and only during the first break did the two brothers meet in Jerusalem and planned to help immigrate there, parents. After the truce, Ya’akov-Haim was transferred to the Gahal unit and served in an anti-tank artillery battalion and participated in the operations to capture Iraq-Suidan and the occupation of Auja al-Hafir in Operation Horev. Some of the crew members were injured and he left intact. Three days later, on the 5th of Tevet 5709 (6.1.1949), when he was in the position of defense of Nirim in front of Rafiah (where he boarded the ship), he was wounded by a shell and fell, was buried in Gvulote (11.8.1949), he was transferred for eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
