Goldzweig, Jonathan

Son of Yosef and Bassi. Born on 20.11.1952 in Haifa, he studied at the Zichron Yosef Elementary School and at the Municipal High School, both in Haifa, and when he was nine he joined Hapoel in Mount Carmel. He also devoted his time to reading books on a variety of subjects and everything he could find, and he also liked the chess game and played with everyone who was present He was usually the one who had the upper hand in these games, and was also fond of crossword puzzles and was very fond of light music and songs He was one of the best students in high school, and before the matriculation exams he became the home to the “home to the sages,” when many of his classmates came to study with him, and he was quick to grasp and remember everything he read and heard: In the summer of 1970, at the end of his high school year, he was already ready to join the IDF and was determined to join a combat unit. He then began preparing for this task and invested great effort in various fitness exercises. At the beginning of February 1971, he was drafted into the IDF and was already at the absorption base, and his grades were evident in his physical shape, his tall body and his serious approach. He was always complaining about the difficulties of life in the army, and he would always reply with a smile that he did not regret his choice: After the basic training period, his personality changed, his shyness disappeared and he gradually became a man in men. The parachuting and the patrol were the days of the holiday in Bash When he came home on vacation, sweaty and tired, he did not complain, but proudly told his parents about his accomplishments in training, in parachute jumps and in all his activities. He devoted many hours to cleaning his personal weapon and meticulously arranging his military equipment, and he fell on duty on December 27, 1971. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa. His regiment commander wrote a letter of condolence to the parents about the death of their son in the operational activity in the Gaza Strip. “He was one of those soldiers who saw their military service as a mission and accordingly was a soldier.”
