Goldfarb, Uriel
Son of Tamar and Eliezer, was born on May 15, 1930 in the Lublin district of Poland. When he was three years old, he came to Israel with his parents and grew up in a pioneering Zionist atmosphere. His father was a Haganah operative. After the elementary school he graduated from the vocational school “Montefiore” in Tel Aviv, where he completed his studies in electricity. He was known to have a good Lev and a willingness to help others. Already during his studies he worked, and in his salary he helped his parents. He was not content with what he had learned, and during his work he worked hard to read books for further study. At the age of 15, he joined the Gadna, with all his enthusiasm and faith in the Hagana’s mission to which he was a member.After the UN General Assembly resolution on the partition of the country in November 1947, he joined the Hagish and served in the Alexandroni Brigade, Uriel was supposed to take a commanding officer course, but it was difficult for him to part from the operations. As for his parents’ requests for self-preservation, he had plaid and weighty answers to duty and honor and pointed to his father, who had also been recruited. Uriel took part in battles in Yazur, Salameh and the “Triangle” and excelled as a daring machine gunner. Onthe 19th of Kislav, December 21, 1948, he took part in a tour of Khirbet Sika, near Beit Joubrine. His platoon was forced to retreat, and Uriel successfully hit the machine gun to withdraw from his platoon to a safer position. He saved the retreating but he himself fell. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
