Givati, Avraham (Avi)

Son of Leah and Amos, was born on June 18, 1959, in Tivon. As a child he moved to Eilat with his parents, where he received his education. He studied at the Arava School for two years and moved to Almog, where he studied for four more years and completed his high school studies at the Eilat Comprehensive School, specializing in equipment and supervision. As a young man, he suffered from health problems, but his will overcame his difficulties. He was very active in the Scout tribe in Eilat, as an apprentice and as a guide, and organized extensive activities for youth in his city. In August 1977, he enlisted in the IDF and served in the Armored Corps, and after successfully completing basic training, he was sent to a tank-tank course and in August 1978 was promoted to sergeant. In the summer of 1979, he completed a course for Armored Corps officers and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant commander, and was appointed as a “good officer with impressive abilities and performance.” He was appointed as an instructor in an officers’ course at the Armored Corps School and was promoted to lieutenant in August 1980. On the fourth day of the war, June 9, 1982, armored battles took place in Ein A-Tina in the eastern sector, and Avi led his company in battle, when the commander of his battalion was killed, took command of the battalion and continued to fight Until he, too, was injured when he was 23 years old when he died. After his fall he was promoted to captain. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Eilat. He left parents, brother and sister. Defense Minister Ariel Sharon wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Captain Avraham Givati ​​gave his life for his homeland, he fell in Ein Aynina, was a good officer, dedicated and responsible, a type of natural leader, always admired by his subordinates. , Led his company and battalion, while showing heroism and perseverance, even in critical situations. ” In the 2017 investigation it was updated that he was awarded a Citation from the Brigade Commander and a Citation from the Division Commander.
