Gindi, Isaac (“Bonbon”)

Gindi, Isaac (“Bonbon”)

Son of Malka and Ezra. He was born on the 24th of Tevet 5727 (December 24, 1966) in Holon. He began studying at the Brenner elementary school, continued to study at the Remez elementary school and then moved to the Namir vocational school. He studied automotive mechanics and completed his studies at the Shevach vocational school in Tel Aviv. During his studies, Yitzhak was a member of the Hanoar Haoved movement and went with his fellow movement members for trips around the country. He had bought him many friends who had loved him so much. As an athlete he played soccer and practiced at the Zafririm Holon team. He had ‘gold hands’ and he repaired and built various instruments. Isaac was a wise and educated child who treated all his acquaintances and even strangers. Yitzhak was drafted into the IDF in January 1985 and joined the Nahal Brigade as part of the Einav nucleus. After basic training, the settlement period in Kibbutz Beit Ha’arava passed, and returned to the battalion. He spent periods of operational employment in southern Lebanon and Judea and Samaria. Yitzhak was a good disciplined soldier and performed his tasks very well. His commanders gave him the rank of corporal. On Monday, 2 Tevet 5787 (May 2, 1987), Corporal Yitzhak fell in the line of duty when he volunteered to leave on a day of heavy fog and poor visibility and to distribute diesel fuel to the soldiers who were isolated at the post. He was followed by his parents, two brothers and a sister, Yaakov, Ronen and Sarit, in a letter of condolence to the family: “Itzik’s last trip was part of his character and personality. Despite the weather, the concern for the soldiers, the thought that they would be left without diesel fuel for the ovens and the heating, drove him to the outpost. His love for the unit, for his friends, for his devotion to his commanders was always before his eyes … You were a great friend and soldier to your friends and commanders. Everything that was imposed on you was done despite the hours, the rush, and the smile and the kindness never left you. “His parents donated to his memory a Torah library in the Rambam Synagogue in the Aviv neighborhood of Holon.
