Gershon, Aharon
Son of Fruma and Liber, was born on February 15, 1927, in the city of Botosan, Romania. After World War II, he set out for pioneering training in Romania and in 1946 immigrated to Israel on a ship called “Knesset Israel”, which was caught and its passengers transferred to a camp in Cyprus. Where he was held for eight months and married his cousin, and after they were brought to Israel in early 1947 and held temporarily in a detention camp in Atlit, they had a daughter. In September 1947 they reached Pardes Hanna, settled in an immigrant housing project of the local council and he began working as an agricultural laborer. Aharon was recruited in May 1948 for the War of Independence and served in the Carmeli Brigade. After stopping the invasion of the Jordan Valley, our forces took the initiative and attacked the Gilboa area. After gaining control of the Gilboa ridge, the Carmeli Brigade attacked Jenin on the night of June 2-3 and occupied the outposts controlling the city. The Iraqi army, which moved to Samaria after its failure in the Jordan Valley, concentrated its forces and counterattacked, and under this attack our forces were forced to retreat. In this battle, he fell on the day of Iyar 5708 (June 3, 1948). On the 17th of Elul 5710 (3.8.1950) he was brought to eternal rest in a grave in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
