Gedalyahu, Moshe

Son of Avigail and Yehuda, was born in 1926 in the city of Herat, Afghanistan where he studied in the “cheder” and there also awakened his first longing for the Land of Israel. In 1945 he left his family and moved to India to continue his journey to Israel. For lack of means, he was stuck there until he managed to collect the money needed for immigration. On the 9th of Tishrei 5707 Moshe arrived in Israel, first settling in Jerusalem with his grandmother, then moving to Tel Aviv, where he worked as a delivery assistant in a vegetable store. Moshe served in the Alexandroni Brigade, underwent a training period, and during a reconnaissance operation in the vicinity of Ramat Hakovesh, he fell on the 11th of Nissan 5708 (April 20, 1948) and was brought to rest at the cemetery in Ramat Hakovesh.
