Fried (Shimoni), Shmuel (Shmuli)


Son of Miriam and Yitzhak, was born on the 9th of Nissan in the capital of Austria. He completed elementary school and then studied carpentry for three years. As a child, he had two brothers, one older and the other younger. He was active in the Jewish Scout Movement and the General Zionist Youth and participated with his brothers in turning the youth organization into a pioneering movement. Following his eldest brother Uri, he immigrated to Israel as part of the Youth Aliya and came to Israel on Rosh Hashana in 1938. His father and the rest of the family remained in Austria and were murdered by the Nazi murderers, and his younger brother David died in the Theresienstadt concentration camp shortly before the liberation. Yehezkel learned to love agriculture, especially animal care, and was fond of his friends because of his constant cheerfulness and good temperament and called him “Shmuli.” Since his arrival in Israel he was an active member of the Hagana. He broke up with his friends and joined the “Madorot” group, which made its first steps in the small farm in Hadera (Through which he was a member of his eldest brother Uri), as well as his experience in raising sheep and sheep, and he specialized in the stables of Tel Yosef in the treatment of beasts of work. He was very active and cheerful, but also locked himself in. Shortly after he married his girlfriend Leah, he left the group because of disagreements and moved to Netanya, where the War of Independence broke out shortly after his retirement from the group, volunteered for the army, “Encourage” and participate in battles. On July 10, 1948, he was seriously injured while handling a machine gun in a battle near Tel Azzayat on the Syrian border in the Upper Galilee. Was transferred paralyzed to Beilinson Hospital where he died on September 14, 1948.
