Fried, Aharon

Aharon (Lothar), son of Amalia and Moshe Fried, was born on May 25, 1926, in the city of Leipzig, Germany. In 1939 he moved to England and was educated in the city of Manchester at his uncle’s home. When he graduated from high school, he trained to be an actor in Israel. Before he reached the age of conscription, Aharon volunteered for the British army to avenge the death of his parents who had remained in Germany. After the war Aharon was active in Italy in the DP camps and in security matters. He did not want to continue service in England, deserted the British army and arrived in Israel in 1945. Here he joined the Palmach, and volunteered for the army. Aharon served in the “Givati” Brigade and fell near Latrun on the 4th of Iyar 5708 (May 13, 1948) during Operation “Maccabi” for the breakthrough to Jerusalem, a few weeks after his marriage. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak. He left behind a wife, Chava.
