Fredo, Shabtai (Betu)


Son of Joseph and Bella, was born on June 19, 1950 in Tel Aviv. He did his elementary studies at the “Giva’a” school and the Bar-Kochba school in Ramat Gan, where he completed his high school studies at the ORT Yad-Singalovski School in the framework of general mechanics. Shabtai was drafted into the IDF in early August 1968 and assigned to the Ordnance Corps. Following the preparation, Shabtai completed two courses: Basic Officers’ Course and Armament Officers Course After two years of regular service, Shabtai joined the permanent army. During the Yom Kippur War, Shabtai served as a deputy commander, and his commanders admired him as a self-employed, very well-informed, entrepreneurial and acceptable to his comrades and commanders. After completing his studies at the Technion, he was awarded the rank of Captain On June 1, 1977, as a company commander in an advance company in Sinai, Shabtai fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Rehovot. He left behind a wife – Aviva, son of Nir, daughter of Efrat, mother and sister.
