Son of Simon and Pinchas Hacohen was born on January 2, 1960, in Acre, In October 1978 he enlisted in the IDF, served in the Armored Corps. Yair was promoted to the rank of corporal, passed a tank commander course, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in April 1979. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel, and from the beginning of 1980 began serving Under permanent conditions. The opinion of his commanders at the time was: “Yair is a good officer, he needs a lot of experience, a lot of investment, a desire to succeed.” In September 1980, a month before he was killed, Yair rose to the rank of lieutenant and was appointed deputy commander of the Armored Corps, and on a military jeep from his base in Samaria on a Saturday holiday at his home, Near Nablus, his car veered to the left, he lost control of the wheel, the car overturned and fell to the stream, and Yair was killed, and he was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Holon, where he was followed by two parents and two brothers.
