Fox, Joseph (‘Yossi’)


Born in Haifa on September 3, 1955. He studied at the Aharon State Religious School in Kiryat Shmuel, continued at the “Pirchi Aharon” Yeshiva of Bnei Akiva in Kiryat Ono, – Shmuel graduated from the Yavneh religious high school in Haifa. Yossi was orphaned when he was 10 years old. After graduating from the 10th grade, when his mother married again, he moved to Haifa and enrolled in Yavneh High School. In order to be admitted to the school, he had to pass difficult entrance exams, and he spent nights and days studying and memorizing the material. The school was greatly influenced by his teacher and educator, M. Rabhoun. He was a member of the Bnei Akiva religious youth movement and took an active part in the movement’s activities, and served as a guide for young youth. He frequently participated in the movement’s summer camps and on various trips around the country. Yossi would do many acts of charity and observe this mitzvah with great devotion. He donated his money both to the school and to the “Ahiezer” box in the Great Synagogue in Haifa and even preached to his friends to observe this mitzvah. Yossi did not forget his late father and often visited his grave during his military service. Yossi was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in November 1973 and assigned to the Armored Corps after completing his basic training courses and was sent to the Armored Corps in the Golan Heights as a liaison officer. . I loved him in these conversations in which he was discovered as a soldier who cared for him, a soldier who was hurting the wrong actions. “On February 21, 1976, Yossi fell while serving in the Golan Heights. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by his parents, sister and brother. His family donated a marble plaque to the “Elijah the Prophet” synagogue in the Haifa mansion, and his name was engraved on a memorial plaque at the Haifa mansion. The library in the “Peer Israel” synagogue is named after him. His friends put a parochet in his synagogue in Kiryat Shmuel.
