Mendel, son of Rivka and Moshe, was born on February 2, 1948, in Lodz, Poland. Mendel was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in late February 1966. After completing basic training, he completed a high-grade course in the Armored Corps course and was able to easily take over complex systems, and his teammates recognized him as an electronic brain. His devotion to friends was limitless, and he was aware of his friends’ well-being, ignoring his own needs, having a knack for liking people immediately and in society, buying friends from different classes, As in every army, he immediately felt at home He and his commanders in the unit remember him as an excellent person and as an excellent fighter, few like him, and in the last two and a half years of his life he found the wife who had a deep and sincere relationship with her and chose to marry him And he was also a devoted and faithful son of his family, and he maintained friendly relations with his parents and with his sister Bella, who devoted much of his time and thought to him. She always took care of all her needs with loving attention, took an interest in everything that was happening to her and helped her solve her problems. Mendel’s death was a severe blow to his father. His Lev did not stand in his struggle for sorrow over the terrible loss, and he died about three months after learning of his son’s fall in battle. During the Yom Kippur War, Mendel participated in the battles in the Golan Heights as a gunner in the Centurion tank. He later took part in the battles to break into the “enclave” our forces had conquered in Syrian territory. On October 11, 1973, his tank was hit by an anti-tank missile in a battle west of Khan Arnabeh, where all the crew and Mendel were killed on the spot, and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Holon Left behind his parents and sister, and was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant.
