Fishbein, Shmuel


Son of Chaya and Eliezer (Zalman) was born on January 4, 1923, in the city of Satmar (Satumare), Romania, on the Hungarian border. After the war he returned to his town, married Blanka and explored the possibility of immigrating to Eretz Israel, and therefore rejected the invitation of his sister and her assistance in going to America. He left with his wife on the “Bericha Route”, and they boarded the ship “23 Yordei Ha-Sira”, were sent to Cyprus and on January 15, 1947 they were released and immigrated to Israel. Shmuel worked first in English army camps as a cook and later as a policeman in Karkur and Tzrifin. He was drafted as a night guard by the Bat Yam Council. He was drafted into the IDF and served in the “Kiryati” Brigade, where he was trained and participated in the operations and was eventually appointed to a combat unit. Shmuel fell on 5 Av (10.8.1948). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
