Fischer, Zalman
Son of Rivka and Moshe Aizik. Was born in 1892 in the city of Bogopol in the Ukraine, Russia. He acquired his basic education in a school in his city. Zalman was a Zionist from his youth and in 1909 immigrated to Eretz Israel. At first he lived for several months in Ben-Shemen and participated in its defense against Arab rioters. In 1910, he settled in Nes Tziona, married Sarah Hanna, a member of the Neiman family and one of the founders of Nes Tziona. He was among the first to take care of the introduction of Jewish work into the settlement’s orchards. After a while, when he was redeemed from Aharon Aaronsohn’s land, he bought him a plot of land and planted his orchard on it, and Zalman was a public figure who was active in the field of defense and security. He served as a personal example of guardians day and night, and even built a “slick” for his weapon, which was used by the people of the moshavah. On the day of the 5th of Kislev (2.12.1924), returning on a donkey from his work in the orchard, was shot from ambush by an Arab and died on the spot. He was buried in the cemetery in Nes Tziona, leaving behind a wife, son and daughter.
