Ewan, Shmuel

Shmuel, the eldest son of Hazana and Maurice, was born on 29.6.1953 in Tel Aviv. As a child, the family moved to Ramat Gan, where he graduated from elementary school and completed his career at the Avuka high school. He was also a member of a youth movement and was drafted into the IDF in early November 1972. In the army, too, he preferred activity and effort and did not ask for office work. After completing basic training, he took a course in tank drivers and a tank course and was assigned to a combat unit of the Armored Corps. He was a good soldier, disciplined and devoted to his job and loved by his friends and commanders. On Yom Kippur, Shmuel’s unit was stationed on the front line in Sinai. As soon as the fighting broke out on October 6, 1973, the unit moved towards the northern sector of the Suez Canal and went into battle, and in one of the first battles Shmuel’s tank was hit by an ambush by the enemy and he was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, left behind a father and a mother, a brother and two sisters, and was promoted to the rank of corporal. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family: “Shmuel was loved by his comrades and commanders. He had a delicate sense of humor that he liked about those around him. May his memory be blessed.”
