Erev, Yaakov (Jacko)
Yaakov (Jacko), son of Sarah and Eliahu Erev, was born on December 22, 1928 in Tel Aviv, attended elementary school and spent a year studying at the Max Payne Vocational School, After graduating, he began to work in the “Me’azne Ha’aretz” factory, where his friends from childhood founded a “group” and distributed their salaries equally. In 1946 he joined the Haganah in Tel Aviv and dedicated his free time to training. A few days after the United Nations General Assembly Resolution, Yaakov volunteered for the Kiryati Brigade, was responsible for guarding the Abu Kabir sector, and later Manshiya. On the 18th of Adar 5708 (28.2.1948) Yaakov volunteered to join the forces protecting Kfar Salameh, and in the first action taken in broad daylight, when our men retreated from the enemy’s strong fire, Yaakov returned to retrieve a wounded friend, and never returned. Yaakov was brought to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
