Epstein, Danny

Son of Uri and Ruth. He was born on July 8, 1949 in Kibbutz Alonim in the Jezreel Valley. He studied at the kibbutz school and was a member of the Hanoar Haoved movement. He was a sports fan and played in the Hapoel Alonim basketball team. He was friendly and liked to work in agriculture. He always walked with a smile on his face and his way that he would not walk the paths of the farm without singing, dancing, jumping and hugging the one walking in front of him. He liked to get to the bottom of things and always wanted to help others wherever he needed them. Although Danny liked to joke and stab a little rough, like a typical “sabra”, he was really sensitive and very nice, who found an outlet in writing songs. He was in love with nature, beauty and life, and of course his love for his parents and his brothers was great. He used to argue with his friends about the place of the kibbutzniks and their future integration – whether in Alonim or in the young settlements. A year before he was drafted into the IDF, he went with the nucleus to the Neveh Or farm – and this year was considered the third year of aid given to the agriculture. In early May 1968 he was drafted into the IDF and joined the Nahal Brigade. Danny was an excellent guide, and he was proud of the IDF’s achievements, and served him with all his Lev and tried to maximize his abilities Danny volunteered for a reconnaissance unit and fell during a raid in the Suez Canal area on the 14th of Adar 14.3 1970). He was laid to rest at the cemetery in Alonim. The commander of his unit wrote, among other things, a letter of condolence to his parents, as follows: “I do not think mourners can be comforted by words, but it is important that you understand what purpose Danny fell in. The aim of the operation was to bring the Egyptian forces to the realization that their complacency on the front line is an illusion, “Danny was assessed by his commanders as good among the best, he fell after the force crossed the canal unhindered, and a few seconds before the start of the movement he came across a close fire that was fired from the end. A collection of poems found in his estate was published by the Alonim group; After that, a publishing house published a booklet in his memory, bearing the name “Danny”; Also published was a booklet entitled “Igeret from the House”, published by the Alonim Group, with excerpts from his notes.
