Elon, Zvi (Bambi)

Zvi (Bambi), son of Noga and Colonel Avraham, was born on 27.7.1952 in Be’er Tuvia. He attended elementary school in Nachshon. Afterward he completed his studies at the “Shomria” educational institution in Mishmar Ha’emek – Hazorea. Zvi was a diligent student with an original mind. In the twelfth grade he was assigned to write a research paper on the subject of “lightning wars – a comparison between the lightning war of the Germans during World War II and Israel’s lightning war.” The very wording of the work did not seem to Bambi, He was a member of the “Hashomer Hatzair” movement, a lover of hiking and caring for animals, and loved a tasty food and a fine garment. He had a talent for acting and for his acting in the plays he was praised for, he devoted his spare time to craftsmanship, was cheerful and loving a good deed. Zvi was drafted into the IDF in mid-November 1971. He volunteered to serve in the IAF but was assigned to the Artillery Corps. After completing his basic training, he completed a course in regiments (in which he was awarded a high grade of 95), a course for officers, officers’ courses, and a course for artillery officers, and was assigned to the Northern Command on October 6, Kedmi at the Hermon post. In this position, he managed the firefighters until he had to find shelter in the large bunker of the outpost. At nightfall a group of officers and soldiers emerged from the post, under the nose of the Syrians, in an attempt to join forces with our forces. During the movement in which Bambi served as the rearguard commander, the group encountered an ambush by Syrian soldiers. Bambi preferred to rescue a wounded member and was killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery at Kibbutz Hazorea. He was survived by a father, a mother, two brothers and a sister. After his fall, he was promoted to lieutenant. His kibbutz published a book called “The Yom Kippur War,” in memory of the Zoraites who fell in the war, and Zvi among them.
