Eliash, Dov (Berish)


Son of Malka and Israel, was born on September 18, 1926 in Olkusz, Poland. He studied in the “cheder” and in the elementary school, and later studied tailoring and, later, also drivers. When the Germans occupied Poland, he was taken with his parents to a Nazi extermination camp, transferred to labor camps and at the end of World War he was liberated from the Buchenwald camp by the American army. He moved to various locations in Germany and Moravia, and when he heard about the War of Independence in Israel, he volunteered for the Gahal, and arrived at the front of Jerusalem on 30 June 1948. On the night of 17-18 August 1948, “Armon Hanatziv”, from which the Arabs used to fire at Talpiot, the enemy seized the high area of ​​the “Armon Hanatziv” hill and opened fire on the force, which was in an exposed area and was forced to retreat.In this battle Dov fell on August 17, 1948 He was buried in Sheik-Bader A. On August 30, 1950, he was transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
