Elbaz, Yitzhak


Yitzhak ben Margalit and Haim was born on the 29th of Av, August 29, 1962 in Morocco. When he was five, Yitzhak immigrated to Israel with his family where they settled in Acre. At the beginning of April 1980, Yitzhak enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces and was trained as a cook and served in various military bases. In April 1983 he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and began to serve as a kitchen officer. Yitzhak demonstrated responsibility, professionalism, seriousness and excellent management ability. In 1987, Yitzhak was married Aviva, and the couple had two children: Chai and Tuval. In 1993 Yitzhak became seriously ill. Despite the difficult treatments he underwent, he returned to his base and continued his routine for five more years later. Overwhelmed by the illness, on the 29th of NIsan, April 25, 1998, Yitzhak fell in his service at the age of thirty-five and was laid to rest in the military section of the Karmiel cemetery. Survived by his father, Raya, two sons, three brothers – Gabi, Shalom and Shlomo, and two sisters – Pult and Janet. After his death, he was promoted to the rank of senior sergeant. The commander of the unit wrote to the family: “Yitzhak came to my unit nine years ago and served in the kitchen, and during this period, his commanders and colleagues were exposed to a caring person who cared for those around him at all times, without taking into account the long hours of work and the effort.”
