Dror, David (Marian)


Son of Laser and Frida. He was born on November 9, 1949, in Bucharest, Romania. His childhood and youth were spent in exile, where he acquired his first education, when the language of study and speech is Romanian. Life in the shadow of the Communist regime, a few years after the war and the Holocaust, was not easy, and David was Simcha when he immigrated to Israel with his mother and brothers in 1965, when he was sixteen. The absorption institutions in Israel referred David to Kibbutz Ramat Yohanan. Here he studied Hebrew and the fundamentals of Judaism in a youth ulpan and adapted to the lifestyle of youth in the homeland. A year later, he took part in the Jerusalem march. After completing his studies at the Ulpan, he was sent to the Neurim Youth Boarding School, where he acquired the profession of a heavy equipment operator. His great diligence and efforts gave him a commendation from the boarding school. In the middle of November 1967, David was drafted into the IDF and assigned to the Engineering Corps, where he came to discover his professional skills with great efficiency. He was also involved in setting up the Bar-Lev line near the canal, even in the midst of the War of Attrition. In an interview published in a Romanian-language newspaper, David said: “We could not hear the shells falling because of the noise of the tractors, and we noticed them only when they fell near us. The important fortifications to protect the soldiers’ brothers. ” At the end of November 1970, David was released from compulsory service and began to do his homework. He married Esther, and they established their family nest in Nahariya. They had twins – two sons. The Yom Kippur War destroyed the family peace. David’s service, which took part in the battles over the Golan Heights, was prolonged. He accepted the call to sign for four years and continued to serve in the engineering corps. He also took an active part in Operation Litani. He was lucky, and at the end of the fighting, along with some of his friends, encountered an ambush by terrorists. Since then, three of his friends have disappeared. This was on the 27th of Adar 5738 (5.4.1978). David’s wristwatch, which was rolled in an unknown way by the IDF soldier who was held captive and returned by the terrorists, testified that he had fallen in the line of duty, and that a memorial was erected on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, Forever in the military cemetery in Nahariya.
