Diamand, Meir Shlomo
Ben Yehudit and Fethiyeahu. He was born on 26.6.1948 in Kiryat Ata. Meir studied and was educated at the Yavneh Elementary School in Kiryat Ata, in the vocational high-school yeshiva in Kfar Citrin and at the Torah and Malcha yeshiva in Haifa. In August 1966, Meir was drafted into the IDF’s Rabbinate, where he was sent to a kosher training course, received the rank of corporal and was assigned to serve as a religious chaplain at the military rabbinate headquarters. Meir served as the representative of the military rabbinate in the reserve corps of the Armored Corps and was awarded the “Six Day War”, the Yom Kippur War and the Peace for Galilee War for his participation in the army. In the Ketziot detention facility in the Gaza Strip, on Wednesday, 11 December 1991, he fell while serving In the event of sudden cardiac death. He was laid to rest in the military section of the Kiryat Ata cemetery. Survived by Raya – Bilha, two sons – Michael and Idan and Bat – Tzipora. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the commander of the unit wrote: “Staff Sergeant Meir fell while serving in the IDF. He served for many years in the Northern Command’s tank brigade … Many times he went with us for long and difficult reserve periods … He was loved and accepted by all of us, Soldiers and commanders. “Following an investigation carried out during 2017, he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant.
