Davidson, Joseph
Joseph, son of Luba and Pesach, was born on 10.4.1948 in Vilna, Russia, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1959. He studied at the elementary school in Jerusalem’s Kiryat Yovel neighborhood and later completed his studies at the ORT vocational high school in Jerusalem. Joseph was a good student, diligent and industrious. According to his teacher, he was a quiet, disciplined and modest boy, and his friends say he was serious about things, friendly and always willing to help others. He was devoted to his parents and cared for his family. He was tall and strong and had a deep voice. Yosef was drafted into the IDF in the middle of June 1967 and volunteered to serve, without the knowledge of his parents, in one of the elite units in the IDF, even though he was the only child. After completing basic training, a tank mechanic and a mechanic took part in the course and was assigned to one of the Ordnance Corps units in the south. He used to tell his friends that the IDF was his second home: he loved life in the army and had many friends in the unit, and he was an excellent soldier who was very responsible and dedicated to his job. After his surgery and long hospitalization, he rejected the doctors’ diagnosis that they had prescribed a low level of health, and volunteered to serve for one year in the career army After graduating, he began studying at the engineering school in Be’er Sheva During his reserve service he volunteered to serve in an elite unit and participated in special and dangerous operations On the 19th of Tishrei 5740 (October 19, 1919), during a fierce battle for the conquest of the “Oracha” outpost, he was killed and killed. “When I saw Yossi for the first time, I was impressed by his appearance: tall and strong,” he wrote in a condolence letter to the bereaved family. But at the same time I remember him as a quiet, modest fellow. He was an excellent professional, with no fault in his good hands and a strong desire to learn more and more. His proficiency in the armor was amazing, but he did not stop there, and at every opportunity he wanted to learn and deepen his knowledge. Yossi, of blessed memory, did not merit to remain with us, he was one of those fighters who sacrificed their lives for the highest goal – the security of the state. “
