Cohen, Yona


Son of-Sarah and Nathan (Nachum) was born on May 2, 1918, in Vienna, the capital of Austria, where he completed an elementary school in the city and later studied the profession of gardening and worked there. He trained in military training in order to enter the Hagana organization, and in 1938 he immigrated to Eretz Israel and joined the Kibbutz Movement. Haifa had to work to accumulate a little money to arrange his parents when they arrived in Israel, but his hopes were turned down and he was a member of the Haganah. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he was one of the first to defend Haifa and served as a military policeman, but his duties in the home front did not satisfy his spirit and therefore he volunteered for combat duties in the Carmeli Brigade on April 22, 1948. 1948) participated in the battle to conquer the lower city of Haifa, and was killed in this battle and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
