Cohen, Yehuda


Yehuda, ben Yakut and Saadia, was born in Morocco in 1946. Until the age of the mitzvot, he studied Torah and was one of the outstanding students, and after immigrating to Israel he immigrated to Israel in 1962 and went to live in the “Hatzerim” and was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed youth movement. After completing basic training in the IDF, he was appointed as a field artillery officer and was stationed in an anti-aircraft battalion on jeeps. During that period he also was a clerk in the artillery corps. In August 1967 he completed his regular service in the IDF. Yehuda was kind, generous and devoted to his friends and family. In 1971 he married Aliza and a daughter, Tali, was born. Yehuda was sent to Sinai, and his friends said that Yehuda encouraged them during the difficult moments, On the 23rd of Tishrei 5734, October 19, 1973, as he traveled in an ammunition convoy in the mountains west of Fayyad, Yehuda was shot and killed in an ambush. He left behind a wife and daughter (his second daughter was born after he fell and was named after him – Yehudit), parents, two brothers and four sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal. His parents donated a Torah scroll to the Rabbi David Moshe Zt “l synagogue in Be’er Sheva.
