Cohen, Shraga Sigmund (“Siggy”)

Cohen, Shraga Sigmund (“Siggy”)

Son of Minna and Yechiel. He was born in Berlin, Germany, on May 5, 1910. His family was well-to-do and he worked in the textile industry, where he received a Jewish education. Immigrated to Israel with his older brother, who settled in Haifa and worked in the textile factory in Kfar Ata in 1934. Sigmund joined the Carmel Forest group, which set out to settle in the Carmel region and to flourish. He also played the violin, and Sigmund gave up his friends to support his older parents, who immigrated to Israel. On 18 Av, August 15, 1938, traveling with friends from his home in the Ahuza neighborhood of Haifa to their home, his car was ambushed and its passengers were killed. He left his elderly parents and brother. Mention of him is placed in a memorial booklet in memory of the victims of the Carmel Forest.
