Cohen, Shalom (Shimon)

Cohen, Shalom (Shimon)

Son of Nitza and David. Shalom was born on April 1, 1942 in Tripoli, Libya. When he grew up, he took part in the Jewish youth movement “Bnei Yehuda.” In the 1940s, the Germans recruited all men over the age of eighteen to participate in the construction of concentration camps and crematoria When he tried to immigrate to Israel, he was caught together with many of his friends and thrown into jail, and when the British arrived in Libya he was released and enlisted in the British army with his brother. After a while, Shalom met his cousin Miriam from Tunis, married and immigrated to Israel with Boaz Jewish organization “Betar” in 1949. They arrived in Israel with thousands of Jews from all over the world. Their first stop was “Beit Olim Pardes Hannah”. After a short stay they moved to the camp, and he received a job cleaning the camp, spraying the environment. In 1951 Shalom joined the Israel Police, and since then served faithfully until the day of his death. The difficult times our country experienced took Shalom for many days away from his home. For many nights he lay in ambushes, within distant boundaries, far from a settlement – in order to catch infiltrators who infiltrated into the country from Jordan to hit, plant mines and destroy. He also acted in the criminal field. Helped many people in the Yishuv, helped to bring home peace, quarrel between neighbors, and so forth. In 1958, he served in the Pardes Hanna station as a station sergeant, and in 1961 he was the coordinator of investigations at this station. . In 1975, he served as head of the tour office at the Tulkarem station, serving as the officer of the Special Operations Bureau in the Samaria District, serving as commander of the Iron station in 1975 and head of the tour office at the Pardes Hannah station in 1976. In his capacity as commander Zichron Yaakov station served since 1977. Shalom was a graduate of courses in the track: Kashab / Agam since 1952/3, sergeant sergeant from 1957/8, has been certified officer since April 1971. He was also a graduate of the drug course that took place in Jerusalem, Israel and the FBI since 1974. Those who knew him (ie, most residents of Pardes Hannah) called him “Sergeant Cohen,” even when he was an officer. He was a policeman in all his limbs, from head to toe: his clothes were neatly ironed, the collars of his shirts starched and straight, his black shoes gleaming and his insignia glittering and shining, his hair cut straight and his mustache neatly combed, always in time, He came to his office before chemotherapy, went to the hospital, went home on a bus, went to the hospital, And came back to work the next day, and everyone was sure that everything would pass, that nothing would happen On July 26, 1978, Shalom, aged fifty-four, died in the cemetery in Pardes Hannah, leaving a wife, six children and five grandchildren .
