Cohen, Meir


Son of Yehuda and Amina. Born on the 28th of Adar 5708 (28.2.1948) in the city of Meknes, Morocco. The family immigrated to Israel at the age of five. He studied and completed his elementary studies at the Shalom Aleichem School in Migdal Haemek. He continued his high school studies there and finished them on Kibbutz Yifat. His classmate in Migdal HaEmek talks about his diligence in his studies despite the difficulties in his absorption into society. Helped his family in economic distress and secretly worked, brought his salary and submitted it to his mother. He was drafted into the IDF in November 1965 and volunteered for the Paratroopers Brigade, completing his basic training period, and was able to demonstrate his physical fitness, his positive enthusiasm for the army, and the help of his comrades. Even in difficult moments he was in high spirits. As an outstanding commander, he was sent to the officers’ course and was Simcha to have taken part in this course, and his simplicity and purity of Lev were expressed in his view of life, in his prolonged and unrestrained laughter, and in his joy that infected everyone around him. At the outbreak of the Six-Day War, on the third day of the battles, he fell on a battle near Gaza, where he was buried in the military cemetery in Bari, and was later transferred to the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
