Cohen, Idan

Idan, the eldest son of Gracia and Yitzhak Cohen, was born on February 14, 1985 in Daughter of-Yam. At the beginning of August 2003, Idan enlisted in the IDF’s Golani Brigade. In January 2006 he completed a sabotage course and received a certificate of qualification as a trainee, and in 2006 he completed his training course in the IDF. Idan was a generous man, with endless ability to give and a strong desire to help others. Two months before his release from the IDF, the Second Lebanon War broke out. Before entering his battalion in Lebanon, he called his mother and said: “Do not worry, if I do not call, it’s a sign that we’re going to an extended practice and I do not have a battery.” On 1 Av, July 26, 2006, around 5:00 AM, the company encountered an ambush by Hizbullah terrorists. Seven soldiers were wounded by the first fire. Even after he was wounded, Idan continued to cheer up the soldiers, shook the hand of Alon the platoon commander and said, “Brother, do not worry, we’ll get out of here.” Not long after, he died of his wounds. He was twenty-one years old when he fell. Idan was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Holon. Survived by his parents and two sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant.
