Cohen, Amnon


Amnon, son of Dov and Bracha Cohen, was among the first settlers in the Nahalat Yitzhak neighborhood. He was born on May 12, 1941 in Tel Aviv. He was drafted into the IDF in August 1959, took a platoon commander’s course and completed his army service as a lieutenant colonel. Amnon was one of the first to be called to reserve duty at the start of the Six-Day War. On the first day of the fighting, on the 5th of Iyar 5727 (June 6, 1967), he drove the first jeep that headed the force towards Gaza and was killed. He left a wife and a son. He was buried in the military cemetery in Bari and was later transferred to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery.
