Cohen, Abraham


Son of Simcha and Yosef, was born on October 31, 1926 in Jerusalem. As a child he studied in the “cheder”. At the age of 11, his family moved to Petach Tikva, where he continued his studies at the Netzach Yisrael elementary school. Avraham was forced to stop his studies, which excelled at them, because of the poor economic situation in the house. The family returned to Jerusalem and began working in frameworks. A year later, he went to Borochov Youth Training in Kfar Saba and a year later moved to Petah Tikva and worked temporarily in packaging, and then as a sailor in the factory. In 1944 he joined the Navarot in Even Yehuda, where he served for about a year and a half. In 1945 he moved to the Galilee and tried to move the family to Moshav Beit Hillel. At the same time he took part in the aliyah to Biriya, and was one of the 20 people who remained there for protection. At the beginning of 1946 he returned from the Galilee to Petah Tikva and worked there as a locksmith. During this period he joined the Haganah. When the War of Independence broke out after the UN resolution on November 29, 1947, he was involved in guarding the soldiers’ housing, against the first gangs that began operating around Petah Tikva and participated in the bombing of an Arab cafe in Pajeh, He enlisted and served in the Alexandroni Brigade. He had fulfilled all his duties. On July 15, 1948, in the evening, his company replaced another company from the Brigade in the posts east of Cule, and had not yet managed to prepare and dig in properly. On the morning of 16 July 1948, Legion forces attacked the outpost, aided by artillery fire and armored vehicles, swept the positions of the platoon at the front post and forced the company to withdraw, and on that day it fell on the 9th of Tammuz 5708 (16.7.1948) ) And was put to rest at the military cemetery in Netanya.
