Carmi, Avraham (Edek)

Son of Perla and Pinchas was born on December 25, 1914 in Lodz, Poland After graduating from the Hebrew Gymnasium and Zionist activity among the youth, he immigrated to Israel in 1934 with a student license and studied at the Faculty of Humanities at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was active in the Haganah and settled in Israel at the beginning of the Second World War and served as a clerk and bookkeeper in the HMO and the tax office in various places. Finally, he settled in Binyamina where he settled with his wife and two When he was asked to enlist, he fulfilled his duty in the Oded Brigade, completed a training course for commanders, guided and trained, commanded and fought. And his soldiers, who were not as enthusiastic as him, demanded a strong hand to fulfill the duty, and on the other hand they had a good and dedicated friend who was eager to ease their suffering and were exemplary with dedication and bravery during the difficult times. He was an animal lover and in all the activities and battles in the eastern Galilee, from Tiberias to Nabi Yosha and Malkia, he led his boxer. Only the battle for Meron on the 11th of Tammuz 5708 (18.7.1948) did not take him on the grounds that he was very afraid of this action. Indeed, in the same battle, he was severely injured in the stomach, when he felt the help of a wounded friend under a strong enemy fire. Avraham was transferred to the hospital in Safed and his last words to the commander of his company were: “Look what the bastards did to me, make sure that the company takes my revenge” – and died. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Safed.
