Amnon, son of Naomi and Zechariah, who arrived in Israel with the immigrants from “Magic Carpet” in 1948, was born on December 7, 1950 in Rosh Ha’ayin. As part of the movement, his love for the country and its landscapes was revealed. He often went on tours and trips with his fellow movement members and spent many days outdoors. Amnon was drafted into the IDF in early August 1969. He completed basic training in the Nahal Brigade and was later sent to a driving course, where he was assigned to the Intelligence Corps and served as a driver at the IAF Training Base. Was a devoted and disciplined soldier who meticulously and completely fulfilled his gray and difficult role, and was very much on the roads and in the front line, bringing supplies to the forces. In early August 1972, Amnon was released from regular service An armored personnel carrier, underwent a course for half-track drivers and was called for periods of reserve duty. Two weeks before the Yom Kippur War broke out, he was called up for reserve duty and sent to the “Hatznit” stronghold on the banks of the Suez Canal. He and his comrades defended the stronghold against enemy attacks, which began on the afternoon of Yom Kippur. On October 8, 1973, Amnon was wounded and fell captive to the Egyptians. He died of his wounds in captivity on the fifteenth of Tishrei 5734 (October 11, 1973) and was brought to eternal rest on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister. After his death he was promoted to corporal. In a letter of condolence to the family, his commander wrote: “Amnon is one of our ranks, he fought valiantly in the” Hatznit “stronghold on the Suez Canal and fell in defense of his comrades and his house on the home front. And its soldiers, hurt together with you, and its image will always be with us. ” His parents built a synagogue called “Heichal Amnon” in his memory.
