Brainbrunn, Reuben

Son of Avraham and Tova. He was born on 27.1.1954 in Acre. He studied at the Weitzman School in Acre, and at an early age distinguished himself among his friends, both in his high school studies and his ability to lead among his classmates, and every word he uttered was as if he had spoken from a commander. After completing his elementary studies, he was in the entrance exams to the military boarding school of the Haifa Real Gymnasium, and was a quiet student who did not speak much, but his classmates quickly stood up for his qualities, one describing his impression of his special personality Of Reuven: “A broad and mighty chest, narrow eyes, which harbor a whole and indeterminate horizon. Because of his smile he was called ‘the schemer’ – it was a charming and special smile, leaving many strange doubts about his intentions, which were generally positive. When you squeezed his strong, firm hand, you felt like the pressure of the press on the tar that was watching a dirt road. I was so tiny when I walked beside him, as if I were moving to the side of the whole world … was a figure full of purity and good intentions. “He was also a good student at boarding school, but not theoretical study was his strong side, but his practical military doctrine. He was amazed at his friends, who wanted to gather around him during the exercises, because he never hesitated to help the weak and pull the stragglers forward, and at the age of 16 and a half he had already completed a parachuting course and proudly wore the paratroopers’ wings. The boarding school had a lot of success in sports, and in the football, grenade, and jump-to-height fields there were hardly any competitors at the beginning of November 1972 The second stage, the main one, took place in Reuven’s military route: he enlisted and volunteered for Golani, and was promoted to the rank of corporal, and was transferred to the rank of sergeant ten months after his induction, When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Reuven took an active part of it and was among the Golani men, the Hermon conquerors, in the bloodthirsty battle of the “eyes of the state.” At the end of the war, which emerged unharmed, he was placed in one of the front posts, The brutal attrition. Reuven took care to calm his family members who were anxious for him. But he himself, the jolly, mischievous boy, was no longer the same. Many of his friends from the neighborhood and from the boarding school were among the casualties, those who fell on the battlefield and others who lay wounded in hospitals. On every vacation and at all times he would visit the bereaved parents and try to comfort them, and perhaps console himself. In his meetings with friends of old, he expressed the wish that they would meet at parties and weddings and no longer be dependent on their loved ones. On his last visit to the house, he again sought to calm his family. “Every shell has an address” The refugee – skipping on the door of his house, to go to the front. This time one of the shells found Reuven’s address at the Tel Antar post. It was a few days after the ceasefire. Reuven fell on the 24th of Iyar 5735 (14.5.1974). “A wonderful fairy tale of life, filled with mischief and creativity, was shattered by the hot fragments of the murderous steel,” says one of his friends. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Nahariya. Survived by his parents and two brothers. Reuven’s commander wrote to the bereaved parents: “We met Reuven as a quiet guy, who does not jump at the head, but everything that is imposed on him is carried out with precision and dedication – there is someone to trust. Therefore, we frequently imposed on Reuven roles and tasks. In the War of Attrition, the meaning of the word “after” is that all responsibility and risk are the subject of the commander, who stands alone in the position, and his soldiers wait for the orderYou. Reuven as commander understood both the responsibility and the risk of the job, and filled it without hesitation and without hesitation. And in this role when he was in a position, he was hurt and fell … “
