Brachot, Raphael (“Rafi”)

Brachot, Raphael (“Rafi”)

Son of Daniel and Liana. He was born on December 4, 1950 in Tel Aviv and attended elementary school in Ramat Hen. From the age of 10 to 14 he was a member of the Scouts movement. He continued his studies at the military boarding school of the Reali School in Haifa. At the end of the seventh grade, he left the boarding school, studied law and took the exam. He was a good-hearted boy, smiling, loving society and loved by people. He was naturally cheerful and full of fun, but as he got older he became increasingly serious. He was interested in marine and underwater fisheries. He learned to play the flute and continued to do so until he was drafted. Rafi was drafted into the IDF at the end of January 1969. He was posted to the Sayeret, where he excelled in his wisdom and skill in terms of technical details, both theoretically and practically. One of the group was appointed to command a class, and Rafael was given the job without hesitation, and his colleagues trusted him in the first few months of his service. On Sunday, March 13, 1969, he fell in the line of duty and was put to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. The commander of his unit wrote in a letter of condolence to Raphael’s parents: “Rafi was one of the most wonderful and special people I have ever seen: a man and a friend who stood out in initiative, vigor and responsibility, in personal strength and ability, who made him a wonderful fighter and a first-rate soldier. His personal principles and values, combined with his ability as a soldier, made him an authority among his friends. Great will power, he believed that if he wanted to come – – – he He was a volunteer with us, and he came to the ranks of the fighters who finished his training with high grades, and here, in the field, was a young man whom we received as a courageous fighter, an outstanding figure, but above all his character was strengthened and strengthened as the campaign made life difficult for us. He understood the significance of the word “mission”: he knew the magnitude of the responsibility that this generation is entrusted to the security system and saw itself as an inseparable part of the spearhead that guarantees our very existence. “Rafi fell and became a link in the price chain of the rebirth of the Jewish people.” After his fall, a booklet was published in his memory bearing the name Rafi.
