Bokris, Joseph


Joseph (Yossi), son of Miriam and Orgeni (Nissim), was born on July 22, 1944, on the island of Djerba, Tunisia, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1949. Yosef was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in mid-November 1962 and was assigned to the Artillery Corps, where he completed his training course with heavy mortars and was awarded a high grade.91 In his certificate of appreciation for his release from the regular service, his commander wrote: “Yosef was a quiet, “Yossi was a quiet, polite, shy and modest man who was naturally sociable, loving others, running away from quarrels and strife, honest and conscientious, and a loyal and dedicated son, a good husband and an exemplary father who always cared for his family. He was drafted into reserve duty and fought in the Golan Heights, and his commanding officer in the reserve unit testified to him, who was temperamental, disciplined and exemplary In the Yom Kippur War he participated in the battles of containment and break-up in the Golan Heights On the 17th of Tishrei 5734 (13.10.1973), on the Sabbath of Sukkot, Yosef was hit by a sperm Beit Jann, the Syrians began shelling the place where the force was deployed, and Joseph was killed on the spot and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Tiberias and left behind a wife and three sons.
