When he returned to Israel in 1982, During his high school studies, he participated in a delegation of students who went to the concentration camps in Poland, a tour that impressed him deeply, Amir was involved with the students at his school and was active in the student council, And at the same time was a member and a counselor in the Betar youth movement. Amir was an outstanding athlete and played in Kiryat Gat’s municipal basketball teams. In July 1990, Amir was drafted into compulsory military service in the Israel Defense Forces. In early May 1991 he returned to military service and volunteered for the Armored Corps, where he completed another basic training period. At the end of the route he was assigned to the tank battalion in the 7th Brigade. His commanders assessed him as a good and responsible soldier with a high personal level, a sensitive, introverted, quiet and serious guy, and they loved him On the day of Nisan 5752 (3.5.1992) Amir fell in the line of duty and was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Gat. Survived by his parents and three sisters – Neta, Tal and Ya’ara. In his letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “At the beginning of his career, Amir wanted to continue contributing and advancing, and his skills and motivation motivated his commanders to send him to a tank commanders course. In his memory, the basketball team named after him – “Ironi Amir” – Kiryat Gat was named. From a poem written by Ehud Manor in memory of Amir on the first anniversary of his downfall: “A lone prince above the treetops / touching the heights / Amir wandering over the forests / Hovering over days / The tree is still alive / Wide and warm trunk / Surrounded by rustling branches / / Beautiful leaves, transparent leaves, cut leaves … / Lone Amir, Do not be discouraged / wave to me, do not be afraid / Amir is still wandering / We’ll be one tree again. “
