Blass, Natan


The son of Sarah and Aharon was born on July 18, 1921 in Warsaw, the capital of Poland, and immigrated to Israel in 1924. The family settled in Ein Ganim, and Natan began studying at the Netzach Israel school. He was a member of the “Marxist circles” and the spirit of the workers’ movement shaped his character for the future and joined the Poalei Zion Left party, “He was able to finish the Montefiore Technical School in Tel Aviv, studied at the British Institute by mail, and dreamed of a study abroad. Natural sciences, especially physics and chemistry. Upon completion of his studies became a civil construction engineer. Worked as a mechanic in charge of weaving factory. At the outbreak of the War of Independence joined the Palmach, excelled very courageous and with his own hands carried out several dangerous operations. Despite being an only child, he participated in the fierce battles in the Galilee and the Negev. At his request, he was transferred as a guide to the School of Military Engineering, and from there he was sent to an engineering unit that dealt with the dismantling of mines, a profession he devoted to many hours and wished to improve. He excelled in cold-bloodedness and unusual daring. On the 8th of Tevet 5709 (8.1.1949), at the time of the dismantling of an old grenade, he lost his life in Nazareth and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Petah Tikva.
