Berker (Berry), Eliezer


Son of Luba and Gutman. He was born on April 18, 1908 in the city of Korostin, Ukraine. At school he was an outstanding student, especially in mathematics. Eliezer was caught up in the Zionist idea, and in 1930 he left Russia as part of the Hehalutz movement. After a short stay in Poland, under difficult conditions, he managed to reach Eretz Israel. Eliezer settled in Yavne’el where he acquired his experience in agricultural work. His diligence and perseverance earned him the sympathy of the farmer with whom he worked. From Yavne’el he moved to Magdiel where he worked in an orchard and later joined the police. On the 27th of Av 5703 (28.8.1943), Eliezer died during his service and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Magdiel. He left a wife and a son.
