Berenbaum, Daniel


Daniel (Danny), ben Lydia and Moshe z “l, was born on the 5th of Elul 5714 (5.9.1954) in the city of Bija Maria in Argentina and immigrated to Israel with his mother and sisters in 1963. He enlisted in the IDF in early 1972. Under Ze’ev, he volunteered for the paratroopers and served in the Sayeret. When he was asked why he did not agree to join the ground forces of the air force and preferred to go to the combat force, he replied: “I want to feel that I am doing the hard work with my own hands and not to be one who stands by …” Two weeks after the war broke out, Danny was transferred to the Suez Canal. On the 28th of Tishrai, October 21, 1973, when an armored personnel carrier crossed the canal to evacuate the wounded, a shell hit the armored personnel carrier and Danny was killed on the spot. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery at Yad Mordechai. Survived by a mother and three sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal.
