Was one of the veterans of the destroyer “Eilat” where he served for eight years and had great ability and a spirit that pulsed in him. His broad professional knowledge, his love of the ship and his attitude to work made him the best weapon officer in the naval commando unit. He served in the destroyer until the day it was sunk by Egyptian missiles in front of the Romanian coast in northern Sinai on the 18th of Tishrei 5721 (October 21, 1967). The commander of the navy in his letter of condolences to the family noted his death as a hero, and among other things, wrote “The late Rabbi son of Shabtai could have gone to the beach after he was found to be injured, but he fought for his right to serve on his ship” Eilat ” until the last battle. “
