Ben-Yishai, Max-Oren


Son of Aliza and Yaakov, was born on December 22, 1965, in Dimona. Oren attended the Yoseftal Elementary School in Dimona. He continued his studies at the Lehman High School. Oren then went to study at the military boarding school “Mevo’ot Yam”, near Moshav Mikhmoret. In 1983, Oren enlisted in the IDF and served in the Artillery Corps when he volunteered to rescue people from flames when a fire broke out at the Moriah Hotel on the shores of the Dead Sea. He volunteered to donate to the needy elderly in Dimona. At an early age he volunteered for the Civil Guard. His friends told him that he was “a guy whom everyone loved, was in the center of things, gave the company an atmosphere of good mood, loved and knew how to paint, loved cars, birds and animals. A letter of condolence sent to the family by Tourism Minister Avraham Sharir reads: “The brave man, when he approached intrepidly, in an attempt to rescue people from the fire that raged in the Moriah Hotel, testifies to his courage and personality.” Southern Command Chief Moshe Bar Kokhba wrote to the bereaved family: “In doing so, your son showed personal courage and sacrificed his life in the face of the danger, in order to save lives, a behavior that the IDF educates its soldiers and only a few achieve.” Oren’s unit wrote to the family: “Oren served for a short period of time, but during his brief stay in the battalion, he stood out as a model soldier and devoted friend who volunteered to carry out tasks above and beyond orders.” Interior Minister Dr. Yosef Burg wrote to the family: Appreciation and appreciation to your son, the late Oren, who was dying to save people, women and children. “The Ministry of Defense planted a tree in the forest of the defenders of the Jewish National Fund in the name of Oren, and his family published a book in memory of him.
